hello,
in case you get this: party has been moved…have to catch a flight to the east coast
will let you know

hello all,
As said before, it was an honour for me to share this time with you and get a glimpse of your minds and the infinite capacity you have as individuals to affect your lives and that of your surroundings through your work and dedication.
You inspired me, and that to me is invaluable; we all grow, regradles of hierarchical positions ( I am more of an anarchist when it comes to that…flatness encompasses all pov’s and its more interesting in my opinion)
So thank you again, I hope I have inspired you in turn.
And, on another note: next saturday you are all welcome to my loft for a well deserved party! bring beers or whatever…. there’s something waiting around the corner for those of you who are interested… keeping it vague for now.
Enjoy!

nb: do any of you have projectors?
don;t forget to email me your url’s please
hello all,
So here are the specifications for the final presentation next week:
- bring in your models
- catalogue & process book (both bound)
-posters
-invites
-web: we’ll have a projector to display these & any motion pieces you have
for the web: your site should include the following:
1) LOGO (import from ai as jpeg, or gif)
2) INTRO TEXT (artist statement / project description) you can do in it indexhibit directly or import a pic of set type from AI
3) IMAGES / NARRATIVE: a sequence of images that illustrate your project narrative (remember you are telling a story) I want these broken down into:
—- space, artworks, pics of environmental graphics applications, catalog pics, invite pics. the point of this is for you to walk away with a portfolio piece that documents and presents your work to the public.(I leave the specific arrangement of these up to you)
(check out http://www.indexhibit.org/ participants to see what people have done)

PRESENTATION STYLE
above is a quick schematic of how I want you to set up the class space for the final review:
-place the tables so that they form an enclosed space in the center of class
- place your models, catalogue, process book & invite on top of butcher paper (on tables of ocurse) let the paper drop to the fround so it looks clean.
- place your posters behind your pieces, tagged on the wall. I don’t want you to mount the posters on boards, but rather, use clips and tape those to the wall.
- identifying you section & project: print your name & logo separately on 2 sheets of 8 x 8, mount these on boards and lay them on the table next to your pieces.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
and just to reiterate the obvious:
I want to see the narrative come to life as a whole, so include any additional material(s) that illustrate your story (so, if you have 3 posters, great, 2 invites, great etc)
I’ll probably come by 15 minutes later to give you time to set up. Be there on time with all your work ready.
Very much looking forward to your work!
We’ll have an open class so invite anyone you like
Any questions welcome
thank u

hello all,
its getting sunny out there & we are reaching our final weeks. It is important you stay tuned and complete your work to best of your ability, you can all achieve that. Last class we did not discuss environmental graphics OR your setup choice for the web component (indexhibit). please make sure you have solutions for these as they are requirements.
Our photographer’s name is Ji Shin, if you want to credit her (which would be nice).
Bring all materials to class next week: catalogue (front, back & spine covers included), invite, poster, web & env.graphics (if you haven’t presented this, this is your last chance, so comp them up however you see fit, but present something solid). please bring your printouts, all the work you have generated so far as we will adddress the process book—this can be easily done: french-fold, perfect bind—.
I look forward to your work!
questions welcome

hello all,
hope you had a good weekend.
i want to reiterate that it is NOT OK to show up to class late, you guys are pushing it. You need to be there on time, ready to present at 2pm, no exceptions.
Next friday we have our photoshoot, do not make my photographer wait, time is limited and she’s doing this pro-bono so let’s respect each other’s times please.
Bring your artwork, models and have a clear idea on how you want to shoot them, meaning:
- what type of lighting, angles, proximities (close-up, medium shot, long shot etc)
- what type of background / seamless: white, black
- camera pov: objective / subjective, high angle, low angle, frontal etc
you are telling a story and it needs to come accross in your imagery, think of your audience as someone who has never seen your work & how you communicate to them, this is very important and the reason I’ve been asking for test contact sheets.
I suggest you do a storyboard of the image narrative you want to create, and use it as a blueprint. remember: the images need to speak & tell the story by themselves, in sequence. some of you are good speaking about the project but that narrative is not evident in the images, so bridge that gap.
catalogue:
in all honesty I expected a more developed catalogue from you last week. this is a complex piece, pay attention to it, push yourselves, think clearly and present something solid to me. i suggest you do a thumbnails page —as explained before—of the narative sequence per chapter (allocating content Textual & visual) this is your layout blueprint.
i do not want to see fancy constructions if they are empty. narrative sequence, refined grid & typographic systems are the most important. again, i need to hold the book and get immersed in it, follow your thought. here is where you show me that you understand your own content.
I want to see a full dummy. please include all content elements: body copy, type hierarchies (heds, subheds, chapter section heds, captions, page numbers), image narrative, bibilography, index, publisher’s info. I want to see 2 versions of the book covers: front, back & spine. (think of materials & executions for these: for example: a fabric cover can be moslty typographic because the material acts as the image or texture)
poster / invite:
2 solid design versions for each. i’d rather you show me a couple of designs than spend loads of time on one version, so present 2 but have a bag of options ready to show as well ( by design versions i mean a range that shows different notions of space, composition, scale etc…not just little tweaks on the same idea). remember: a poster allows for range as far as scale goes, so use this to your advantage. if you are combining these two then look at the structure of the folds and how the message gets “unfolded,” use this intelligently to your advantage.
indexhibit
become familiar with it if you haven’t done so already. let me know how you plan on setting this up so we can get going: shared or individual.
environmental graphics:
since we are shooting next week and i haven’t seen these, bring your env.graphics in removable type or something that can be pulled away from the models in case it doesn;t work. I suggested paper comps for last week. you can comp your graphics in psd later but it won’t have the same effect photographically. don’t let this drop.
It’s mostly 2 of you per project so work smart, no reason as to why some of these deliverables are not being articulated to the best of your ability.
any questions please let me know
looking forward to your work!
